Medical Digital Infrared Thermal Imaging (DITI)

OVERVIEW


DITI is used to looking for far more than just “hot spots” and with accuracy down to 0.1 degrees centigrade; very precise and objective results are possible. Nerve damage or irritation are seen as areas of reduced temperature but more commonly seen are patterns of heat caused by trauma or infection. Even deep inflammation can be detected by Thermography.


Heat emissions from the body can provide an accurate diagnostic window for early signs of breast cancer or heart disease. As the body's cells go through their energy conversion processes, called metabolism, they emit heat. Thermography, using a highly sensitive infrared camera, is able to register these heat emissions, display them on a computer monitor and thereby provide a diagnostic window into the functional physiologic status of a given body area such as the female breast.

From the viewpoint of thermography, the body is like a walking beacon - we glow in infrared. This glow is based on heat emissions from our tissues as they convert or metabolise food into energy and as the energy is picked up by the blood circulation. Our circulatory system acts as a giant radiator to distribute and equalise body heat derived from metabolism. With there being a high degree of thermal symmetry in the normal body, subtle abnormal temperature asymmetry's can be easily identified as areas of either diminished or increased energy flow relative to what is seen on the opposite counterpart.
